Westfield Mall of the Netherlands is a unique shopping, dining, leisure, and entertainment destination in Leidschendam, which opened its doors on March 18, 2021. The project involved a thorough renovation of the existing Leidsenhage shopping center, starting in 2017 and concluding in 2021. During this period, parts of the shopping center were demolished and rebuilt, including a new construction section for which the team pursued the BREEAM-NL New Construction & Renovation certificate at the Very Good level (63.81%). The final completion certificate was achieved in November 2021.
The Mall of the Netherlands houses approximately 280 stores, spread over 120,000 m², and is renowned for its chic finish with a strong focus on green spaces and ecological features. This renovation underscores the emphasis on sustainability and the creation of an ecological, future-proof shopping environment.
C2N was involved from the outset of the project as a sustainability advisor and BREEAM-NL Expert, supporting the process to ensure the client's sustainability ambitions were met at every stage of the project. As the BREEAM-NL Assessor, C2N was responsible for guiding the BREEAM certification process, which contributed to achieving the desired sustainability level.
Technical expertise and sustainability advice are not separate pieces – they form one integrated strategy.
From concept to completion: sustainability is the common thread.
