On the former site of the CSM sugar factory, Sugar City, now known as The Style Outlets, has been redeveloped. This outlet center has a retail space of approximately 18,000 m², complemented by about 1,000 m² of food and beverage outlets, and offers around 1,450 parking spaces. The complex is built on the roofs of a two-story parking garage, and the exterior features an industrial look, with visible columns that literally raise the building above the water and serve as an architectural element to conceal the parking garage.
Sugar City combines the transformation of existing buildings with new construction. The project received the prestigious Prix d’Excellence in 2011 in the category of ‘Environmental Conservation’ and is considered one of the most striking redevelopments of industrial heritage in Europe.
On July 30, 2019, NEINVER obtained the design certificate for this project, with a BREEAM-NL rating of Good. C2N acted as the BREEAM Assessor for this project.
