Sugar City

A new development, also called The Style Outlets, is being realised on the former CSM sugar factory site.

The outlet centre, designed on behalf of NEINVER, a major investor and manager of outlet centres in Europe, has a retail area of ca 18,000 m2 complemented by ca 1,000 m2 of catering facilities. The plan includes ca 1,450 built parking spaces. It will be built on the roof of a two-storey car park. From the outside, the complex looks like an industrial city. The new city is, very Dutch, built on piles, with the difference that here the piles are visible and literally stand in the water. They have been used as an architectural means to hide the built car park under the plan from view.

Much of it will be realised through transformation of existing buildings, but new construction will also take place. SugarCity received the Prix d’Excellence in the Environmental Conservation category in 2011 and is one of the most high-profile redevelopments of industrial heritage in Europe.

On 30 July 2019, NEINVER achieved design certification with BREEAM-NL score Good. C2N fulfilled the role of Assessor during this project.
