Hotel Breeze

On the banks of the IJmeer, amidst the Havenkwartier in Amsterdam IJburg, the first nearly zero-energy hotel in the Netherlands has been developed. The hotel, called ‘Breeze’, consists of a sky bar, restaurant, fitness centre and 195 hotel rooms.

The hotel is a nearly zero-energy building based on the Earth, Wind & Fire (EWF) concept. The combination of clever use of the natural elements of sun, wind, water and earth means that the hotel can largely provide for itself in terms of energy. The three most important elements of the EWF concept are the solar panels on the façade and roof, the Climate Cascade and the Solar Chimney. The Climate Cascade works as a natural heat exchanger and the Solar Chimney is a shaft in which the solar heat is harvested to heat the building and the tap water. In addition, the hotel will be designed as sustainably as possible, for example by using water and energy saving devices and facilities.

The development of the Hotel ‘Breeze’ is a collaboration between the Dutch Green Company and Borghese Real Estate. The hotel was completed in 2018.

As a sustainability advisor, C2N is involved in the BREEAM sustainability trajectory of the project. We support the client in the processing and delivery of the evidence.
